Kathleen and Joseph's Wedding

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Mar 21, 2014 - 3:18pm

Congratulations to Kathleen and Joseph who were married here on April 14, 2013 in the Garden Terrace Patio and Ballroom!

"Cathy, Hello there! I am so sorry we haven't spoken in so long. Life has been hectic since the wedding and we are enjoying every minute of married life. I am sorry so much time has passed since the wedding, I haven't had the chance to thank you for all that you have done for Joe and I. I noticed on, you didn't have a review...I made sure to take care of that for you, and I assure you it was my sincerest pleasure to do so. I've included the review notations at the bottom of this email. I hope it makes you smile and really tells you how thankful Joe and I are for everything you and your staff has done for us, though I know that no words could possibly express it properly. Thank you for everything again. I hope you and your family are doing well and had a wonderful holiday season. Happy new year and I hope to hear from you soon! Miss you!!! Sincerely, Kathleen"......

"Cathy Cheng and her amazing crew really are one in a million. Of all the venues you could select for your wedding, the Sheraton of Cerritos may seem like a modest choice for the glitz and glamour you've always dreamt of on your big day. But I assure you, the glitz, glamour, and overall impressiveness lies in the amazing quality of work provided by the event staff. My husband, Joe and I couldn't have been happier with all of the services the hotel provided for us...from ceremony and reception space, to the food, hotel accommodations, photography opportunities on site, and attentiveness to your overall needs...this team truly ROCKS. From the moment we began our journey with Cathy, we knew we were in the best hands possible. She truly cared about every detail of our event. And she was always available!!! If I ever had any questions or anything, I could email or call her and I would get a response right away! Our entire event was kept on time, flowing smoothly and seamlessly. The catering staff was attentive and always there to make sure you had everything you needed. Right before our reception grand entrance, Cathy gave my new husband and I a huge hug, congratulating us and we felt so cared for. At the end of the reception, the catering staff made sure we were fully satisfied. When asking if I needed anything as our guests began to clear out I said "you know, I would LOVE a huge glass of ICE cold water to take to my room!" Moments later, not only did I get ice cold water, I got 2 huge bottles of VOSS water, cold as they could be! She even had snuck a piece of cake for me in a to-go container before it was all served because she knew I would want to have some in my room to really enjoy! I was so incredibly pleased! When my husband and I finally got up to our room that night, we were greeted by a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a warm note from Cathy. It really made us feel special. I can't suggest this hotel and staff enough. The venue is beautiful and calming, the accommodations are superb and the staff...well you already know...WE LOVE THEM!""

Congratulations to Martinique and Terrance who held their Wedding Ceremony and Reception with us on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2012 and rang in the New Year in the Crystal Ballroom!

“Cathy, I cannot say enough about the joyous experience I had with your hotel.  From our first conversation until we checked out, the Sheraton Cerritos staff was more than accommodating. You, of course, were so easy to work with.  You were amazing.  My bridesmaids (aka my best friends) keep commenting on how awesome you were.  Thank you for taking the extra time to work with us to make sure everything went off without a hitch. I want to thank each and every member of the banquet staff for sacrificing their New Year’s Eves to make my special day memorable.  They were all perfect!  Excellent... And the food!!! The food was so amazing.  Much better than the tasting.  Definitely exceeded my expectations.  And the appetizers!!!!  I keep hearing about the crab cakes, but my personal fav was the shrimp cocktail.  Terrance loved the beef pockets. If I could get married again next month, I would, just so I could hang out with you all again.  You guys made the day memorable for me and my guests.  I keep hearing "it’s one of the best weddings that I have ever been to!" Thank you Cathy and Sheraton Cerritos!!!! Martinique Starnes”

Dorothy and Brian Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Aug 17, 2013 - 11:31pm

Dorothy and Brian held their wedding reception with us on December 15, 2012 in our Cerritos Ballroom. They had originally booked the Crystal Ballroom with an estimated maximum guest count of 200. When that guest count kept going up and up and I was wondering how we were going to squeeze everyone into the Crystal Ballroom,  by a miracle of miracles, the event that was booked in the Cerritos Ballroom on the same day had to cancel! I was able to move Dorothy and Brian's wedding reception into the Cerritos Ballroom and they ended up with 70 more guests attend their celebration than planned. Their wedding party alone consisted of 19 people! I love the use of unique colors for weddings and Dorothy and Brian incorporated yellow, black and silver into their color scheme. I will always remember fondly Dorothy telling one of our Chefs at their menu tasting that she was looking for "a party in her mouth" when eating her wedding entree and by golly we made that happen for her! Congrats Dorothy and Brian - I'm excited for your little bundle of joy that you are expecting soon as well!

The Parents of the Bride Virender and Kamlesh worked closely with me to plan the details of their daughter's special day and succeeded in wowing their guests, many who came from out of the country to attend the celebration. It was truly an honor getting to know this special family. I received the following thank you email after the event:

"Dear Cathy,
We received lots of kudos from families and friends for the nicest arrangement in your hotel and hospitality of your staff. Please convey our special thanks to Banquet Captain Barbara Reeder and Catering Coordinator Lisa Lifton for their prompt services. You worked with us like our family member from the beginning and provided us the necessary and immediate support whenever required. We are thankful to you for helping us to make the wedding event so successful. Now Kriti and Anuj are enjoying their happy married life. We will definitely share the official photos of wedding and reception once we recieve from the photographer. Whenever we receive any survey, we will give our positive feedback. Appreciate your quick & beautiful photos.
Again please accept our heartiest thanks and hope to see you, our manager in future.
Sincerely, Virender & Kamlesh"

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Aug 17, 2013 - 10:32pm
Posted in Weddings

Every year after the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Sheraton Cerritos starts preparing for the holiday season by putting up its festive holiday decor. In additional to a large Christmas tree in the lobby and wreaths and garlands through the Hotel, every ballroom in the Hotel has its own Christmas tree (or two!).

Veronica and Rod were the first couple to hold their wedding reception with us after Thanksgiving last year and celebrated their marriage in the Cerritos Ballroom on November 30, 2012. With a pale green and blue color scheme, they alternated the sashes for each guest table in the different hues, set up their own elaborate candy station, had mariachis, a photobooth and gave away playing cards as favors (whew)!

Veronica was such an efficient bride and spearheaded the detailed planning of the day and Rod helped by designing all the stationary for the wedding including placecards that looked exactly like the fast track passes at Disneyland! I had great fun working with this lovely couple on their special day, who were so calm, patient and gracious throughout the whole process. They sent me the following amazing email just recently (excerpt below):

"Hi Cathy :)

This email is long overdue but I really wanted it to be special! We know you remember us, but we wanted to thank you for our amazing wedding reception there at the Sheraton on November, 30, 2012. How can I begin to put into words how much we loved our reception at the Sheraton in Cerritos. From our very first visit to the Sheraton, I just knew it as the venue we had to have. You and your team made the ENTIRE wedding process so much easier for us with all of your expertise and wisdom. To this day, months after our wedding, our family still talks about how beautiful it was decorated, how attentive the staff was and how TASTY the food was.

Throughout the entire process, the attentiveness from you and your team in responding to emails, answering questions and always being a big resource to us was a great help as we were planning this big event. Your professionalism and attention to detail are second to none.

I was so excited for our menu tasting and we felt even more special with the little details (My favorite was the sign on the outside of door welcoming us in.) The food was delightful and every change we requested was marked and followed on our wedding day. It was even a pleasure to have the Executive Chef there to greet us and see what we liked and didn't like to make sure he followed everything like we wanted. I also liked that during the food tasting we also made a sample plan for the wedding day to make sure all details would be taken care of so efficiently.

On our wedding day, the Sheraton could not have made it easier for us. Their staff was so accommodating to our outside vendors and they followed all of our set up requests perfectly. The front desk even kept room keys for me so when my set up team came, they could have access to the decorations in my room. During cocktail hour, there were more than enough hors d'oeuvres and the bartenders were speedy in getting people their drinks. Because of the size of our wedding, lines were long but moving quickly.  During our first reveal, it took our breath away, what we envisioned and saw for our wedding was delivered and it was beyond anything we could have envisioned.  During our reception, as the bride and groom our cups were never empty and the bartender always made sure the drinks were to our liking. The staff made every moment during our reception feel very special. Our server never interrupted us as she was clearing out our plates and doing everything discreetly. During dinner, one of our uncle's had a medical emergency and the staff was quick in responding to the situation and getting him the help he needed. After talking to the family, they handled with dignity it and care and even did a full cleaning of the restroom after he was taken out by ambulance, all of which, due to the discretion of your staff, didn't interrupt  the festivities. The dance floor was catered to our wedding size and accommodated all of our guests, and there were lots of open space so our guests didn't feel cramped.

After the wedding, I loved that we got to stay in the hotel in our wedding suite. It was such a nice touch and was so romantic for us to leave this perfect party to start our perfect wedding night without having to worry about getting home safely.

I am still in awe and can speak nothing but praise for the Sheraton - Cerritos.  The decision to make this our venue was one of the best ones we could have made for our wedding. The whole process could not have gone any smoother. At our rehearsal dinner, we even found out that Cathy had been working with our bridal party to deliver their surprise of the photo booth, which we did not know was going to be there until the day of our wedding. I was so shocked because between all the emails and approval for rooms set up, the secret was never revealed but always thought of.  I was astonished! My family and friends are still talking about [our] wedding and comparing every wedding to it and finding no other wedding can compare. Everyone had fun, everyone loved the food and everyone was so impressed with the hall and staff.

Cathy - You and your team made this the wedding of our dreams and truly gave us a fairy tale night. We are so appreciative for all of your hard work, dedication and countless hours to make this happen. Please feel free to share this letter with your superiors and staff and please give them my greatest thanks for all of their hard word in making this the night of our dreams!!!

 Rod and Veronica :)"

Proving that you do not need a year to plan your dream wedding, Mika and Marvin booked their wedding ceremony and reception with me just 3 weeks prior to their wedding date of November 11, 2012. Thank goodness we had the Garden Terrace Patio and Ballroom available, which fit their initimate guest count of 65 guests perfectly. Falling in love with Marvin while he was on a business trip in Korea, Mika left her family and friends in Korea to start a new life with her husband in Southern CA.

The beautiful and fun Mika and I hit it off right from the beginning and even after the wedding, I feel like we are old friends:

"Dearest Cathy, How are you? Hope you doing great!!! Finally, all family and friends are gone. Now I am back in normal life. Thanks for everything! When are you be at office next week?  I'd love to visit you to say hello! Let me know please. Lots of blessings, Mika"

On November 9, 2012 and November 11, 2012, we had the good fortune of holding both the Bride's and Groom's Receptions here in the Crystal Ballroom for Esmat and Muhammad. I love it when the Bride and Groom's Families both fall in love with the Sheraton Cerritos and decide to keep all the festivities with us!

Farah, the Aunt of the Groom, send me the following email after the events:

What's the next best thing to holding a wedding here at the Sheraton Cerritos? Staying with us in our stylish Hotel rooms and getting ready here for your wedding!

Rakhee and Rushabh Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

The 2013 Wedding Season for the Sheraton Cerritos started early this year and has been keeping me busy on a daily basis! This is the reason why I have unfortunately been neglecting our poor Weddings and Special Events Blog but not to fear... I am getting ready to post all of the beautiful weddings taking place at the Hotel once again!

Rakhee and Rushabh held their wedding ceremony, luncheon and dinner reception with us on October 28, 2012 and took over the Fountain venue and the Cerritos Ballroom for the day. The Groom arrived for his grand entrance to the ceremony on a convertible and the ballroom was decorated in beautiful shades of turquoise and purple to match with the Bride's dress. I love how detailed Rakhee and Rushabh were in planning their special day and kept me on my toes! I received the following card from the Bride and Groom after the wedding:

"Dear Cathy,

Thank you for all the hard work that you and your staff put in. Words cannot express how happy Rushabh and I were with our event. We wish we could do it again! You took care of every little detail for us and we couldn't ask for more! Thank you again!

Love, Rakhee & Rushabh"

In addition to the cupcakes for guests, there was a separate cutting cake for the Bride and Groom!

Congratulations Rakhee and Rushabh!

Ayesha and Omar held their post wedding luncheon with us on October 21, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom to celebrate their marriage with their local family and friends after holding the actual wedding out of town. I planned the whole event with the Nafisa, the Mother of the Bride who enlisted the help of her relatives to create the centerpieces and backdrop as well.  Playing off our burgundy and gold banquet chairs, they kept the flowers in the same burgundy color with cream accents. I received the following email from Nafisa after the event:

"Hi Cathy,

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your expert handling of our event this past Sunday.

From the time I first spoke with you to plan the event, through all of our meetings and conversations along the way, I found you to be knowledgeable, courteous, and professional in your approach. You were patient and willing to accommodate our needs, and we felt very satisfied with the way everything turned out! I must say that your entire team was extremely well-trained and adept at handling all the arrangements, and we hope you will convey our appreciation to them too.

We look forward to talking to you again, when planning the next such occasion in our family! And we also look forward to running into you when we are at the hotel for other events.

All the best to you from our family, and especially myself,

It was a pleasure working with Nafisa as well and since her daughter's event, I have had the pleasure of seeing her several times at other weddings as well! That is what I love about our Hotel and our repeat and loyal base of customers!

Diana and Jonathan Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Jan 31, 2013 - 2:00pm

Diana and Jonathan held their wedding reception with us on October 20, 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom. Their celebration was planned with care and precision by the entire Bride's family, with each member involved in all the details from selecting the menu to how the chaircover sashes were to be tied. I loved working with the Parents of the Bride and Groom, Rosa and Ben, because it was so heartwarming to see how important it was to them that their daughter had the most perfect day. Every meticulous decision paid off on the wedding day, when the color scheme of shades of orange and creamy ivory melded together to create a warm and romantic glow inside the Crystal Ballroom. Ivory organza rosettes enhanced the decor and were scattered across the sweetheart table backdrop and tied to the back of the chaircovers. This was the first time I had seen this design element from Glow Concepts used in such fashion! Ivory organza overlays, orange toned uplights, lush florals in both high and low centerpieces all created further visual stimulation for the guests. I definitely heard a gasp or two as the ballroom doors were opened for the first time! I received a card with the following words on the wedding day:

"Cathy, you are wonderful. Thank you so much for working with us for Diana's wedding. Love, Rosa, Diana and Ben."

After the wedding, the Parents of the Bride also responded with the following emails:

"Cathy, Thank you very much for the pictures and for all your help, I really appreciated you guys did a great job! Thanks, Rosa"

"Thank you Cathy for... the total professionalism of you, Lisa and your staff. We had an excellent time and you did a great job.  We will highly recommend you to anyone who is plan on getting married. Thanks Again, Ben"

Congratulations on your marriage Diana and Jonathan! And congratulations to Rosa and Ben for helping plan such a spectacular affair - your hard work was well worth the effort!

Kim and Bernard Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

Kim and Bernard held their wedding ceremony and lunch reception with us on October 20, 2012 in our Garden Terrace Patio and Ballroom. Since the Bride and Groom found each other later on in life, they wanted their special day to only include their closest family and friends. However, that did not mean their celebration was intimate by any means! I was astounded by how much love and energy poured out of Kim and Bernard's 60 guests. The ceremony took place under cloudy skies but the rain held off until just after the Bride and Groom jumped the broom. We moved the previously scheduled outdoor cocktail reception inside the ballroom and their wedding party (a whopping 11 members) kicked off the grand entrance in style. The bright orange color scheme picked up by the table overlays and chaircover sashes added a cheerful atmosphere to the whole wedding.

Kim gave me a card at the wedding that simply said "Cathy, Your help is such a blessing. Thank you for everything. Kim"

Congratulations Kim and Bernard on your marriage! We wish you two the best that life can offer and are thrilled you have found one another!

Sandy and Ricardo Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

High school sweethearts Sandy and Ricardo held their wedding ceremony and reception with us on October 13, 2012. This couple has been together for over a decade and finally tied the knot in grand style with us at the Fountain venue and Cerritos Ballroom. I love Sandy's decision to choose the tropical "coral" as her wedding color and their amazing hexagon wedding cake surrounded by flowers was admired by guests all night. Sandy was so detailed during the planning process and the best part was that she trusted us to make her wedding day happen. Even when I had to leave the country the week of her wedding to attend a dear friend's wedding in Italy and returned home the day before her wedding rehearsal, Sandy trusted that when I said I had everything ready for her big day, I meant it. This is the kind of Bride I love!

I received the following email from Sandy after the wedding (excerpts):

I just wanted to thank you, Lisa, and all your wonderful staff for making everything so perfect! Specially you Cathy... with you, who needs a wedding planner? You pretty much took care of everything and pointed out everything that I was forgetting. Besides that, because of your expertise, you had so many tips and suggestions for things that I would have never thought of! With that said, I have never had such a wonderful experience planning something as I did with you. Everyone was amazed at how everything was so planned out and I couldn't stop bragging that I worked with the best coordinator EVER! I am so happy that you helped me out with every single detail of the wedding, otherwise, it wouldn't have been as perfect as it was. Thank you so much Cathy, I will be recommending you to everyone I know!

As far as the Banquet Captain, Barbara Reeder, and the staff, Juan V., Marian, Cristina, Martha, Carlos, Letty, Rosura, Raul and Jose Luis, they were all great with getting everything out on schedule and making sure that Rick and I were OK.

Again, thank you so much for having made my day so MAGICAL!

Congratulations Sandy and Ricardo! I loved working with you to plan your magical day and am so glad you two finally made it official!

Sahar and Babar held their Walima with us on October 1, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom and added a joyous pop of turquoise and hot pink to their festivities! I never get tired of seeing the beautiful outfits worn by my Southeast Asian Brides and Sahar certainly did not disappoint. Look at her posing like a professional model in the picture below prior to the grand entrance! The stage had a unique draped chiffon canopy that soared over the loveseat and armchairs, which made for a dramatic focal point.

I received a lovely e-card from the Bride and Groom after the wedding:

"Dear Cathy,

Words cannot express the joy that we feel remembering that you shared the beginning of our new life together. We would like to send our sincerest thanks for your love, and your support in our lives. Thank you again for doing an incredible job.

All our love, Sahar and Babar"

Sophia and Omar Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Sophia and Omar held their wedding reception with us on September 29, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom and blew me away with the beauty of their decor and the abundance of food! It is hard to surprise me at a wedding since I feel like I've seen it all but when Nafisa Jangda of Nafees Occasions completed her work, my jaw dropped. The stage, instead of having a traditional draped backdrop, showcased hundreds of candles held by a custom build metal shelf that flickered throughout the night. The whole ballroom was draped in white chiffon and red and purple florals filled the room along with lilac satin table linens and silver chiavari chairs. There was a full buffet for guests to enjoy along with a lamb carving station and a crepe station for dessert in addition to the wedding cake.

We received the following email from Sophia after the wedding:

"Dear Cerritos Sheraton Staff,

Thank you all so much for helping me have my dream wedding, everything that day went absolutely perfect and I wouldn't change a single thing. My experience with this hotel was amazing from my very first meeting with Cathy, she was very helpful and extremely nice. Cathy went out of her way to make sure everything went smoothly, and always was super quick to respond whenever I had any questions. The rest of the staff was also very nice and helpful, including Cathy's assistant, the ballroom captain, and all of the servers that night. I can tell that the staff really cares about their clients, it did not feel like they were just coordinating some random stranger's wedding, but instead were genuinely interested in helping me have an amazing wedding, everyone I worked with at the Sheraton just had such a great attitude. The staff was definitely a huge factor as to why I chose this venue for my wedding and I'm so glad that I did. Thank you all so much for all of your hard work. I truly appreciate it.

Sincerely, Sophia"

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge our hard work Sophia! It was our honor and pleasure to help bring your dream wedding to life and congratulations to you and Omar on a lifetime of happiness!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone's 2013 is off to a great start!

We kicked off the new wedding planning season by hosting one of the first bridal shows in Southern California with Premier Bridal Shows today and saw a great turnout. The Sheraton Cerritos booth was a hit with Brides and Grooms alike not only because of the gorgeous satin backdrop with silk rosettes flowers and sparkly sequined purple table linens provided by our friends Glow Concepts ( but also because of the purple candy buffet station we offered as favors to attendees. Our in house A/V team Dobil also lit up our booth in a spectacular fashion with purple LED uplights so you could see it across the Cerritos Ballroom!

We certainly hope to hear from all you prospective Brides and Grooms soon. 2013 weekend dates are quickly filling up!

Jatin and Dana Engagement Party (Sneak Peak!)

Jatin and Dana celebrated their engagement party with us on September 23, 2012 and held an engagement ceremony and luncheon in the Cerritos Ballroom. Jatin planned the whole event on his own as the beautiful Dana was based out of state and executed the details as only a trained lawyer could! Jatin's Aunt personally decorated the ceremony stage and made all of the centerpieces for the celebration, which turned out beautifully.

Jatin sent me the following email after the event:

Thank you very much for the well wishes. Bit of a delayed reply since I was busy driving family and they have only just started departing one by one. It truly was a great experience working with the entire team at the Sheraton Cerritos.

Dean was particularly helpful and flexible in assisting me put together the group rate and ensure my party was accommodated to our liking. The event staff on the day were also phenomenal, again very flexible, even though the event was running a little late they managed to work around the remaining guests, and no one felt pressed to leave immediately.

Of course there was the experience working with yourself, which was a major reason we opted for the Sheraton over a few other choices. Throughout the process you made it enjoyable, and helped guide us through what needed to be done in a timely and efficient manner. My mom was very impressed with your organizational skills and your ability to grasp the intricacies of what we were trying to achieve. Thank you very much Cathy for doing what you do, and being who you are! We wish you all the best in your career and personal life. You are a gem!

Thank you very much to everyone in Banquet and Catering to the event staff on the day. You truly helped make this engagement party a memorable one, and many of our guest were thrilled at how beautiful the hall looked and the organization of the the event staff and the timeliness of the entire event. The event staff had a solid work ethic, but were very much approachable when we needed help with odds and ends. Mr. Rodriguez even managed to help assure me that we need not rush when people were still eating and the tieme was drawing near to our time in the hall. What a guy!  Thank you again for helping throw a successful event.

I appreciate you sending me those pictures. I look forward to touching base with you about some other events we may require your services for and should be able to pop in once you return to the office. All in all the event was a great success and we look forwarding to working with you in the future!

Kind regards,

Congratulations Jatin and Dana on your engagement! I look forward to working together and planning more events with you both!

Nancy and David Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Nancy and David held their wedding reception with us on September 22, 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom. From our first meeting, Nancy and David expressed that they were on a budget but because they loved the Sheraton Cerritos, they wanted to know if we could be flexible to meet their needs. Absolutely! Nancy and David were flexible from their end as well and we were able to accommodate their event during lunch time, which greatly lowered their costs. In addition, we took away a lot of the package enhancements that were not important to the Bride and Groom (such as the cocktail reception hors d'oeuvres) to further lower their costs. In the end, Nancy and David were able to have the wedding reception of their dreams while still having enough money in the bank to start their lives together! Nancy and David also DIY'd a lot of the wedding items themselves from the centerpieces and menu cards to the wedding music (iPOD!) but still added some flair with the addition of a mariachi band. When the mariachi band ran more than a little late for their grand entrance, Nancy and David impressed me with how calm and unaffected they were. This is a great lesson for all my Brides and Grooms to just go with the flow on your wedding date and enjoy the moment! I received the following email from the couple after their honeymoon:

"Hello Cathy,

It's been so crazy since we got back from our honeymoon and moving into our home. Just wanted to say thank you again, everything went so smoothly all thanks to you. My husband will write you a formal thank you letter as soon as we get settled in. You truly are the best! Please thank your staff as well on our behalf they did and amazing job, overall our wedding was everything we imagined and more!

Thank you, Nancy & David"

Nancy and David, thank you for being such easy going and gracious clients to work with. Congratulations on your marriage and your new life together!

Guests were able to sign anniversary wine bottles marking various major anniversary dates for the Bride and Groom!

Love, love, love the blue shoes and sock combo!

Ayaz and Saba's Groom's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Ayaz and Saba held the Groom's Reception portion of their Pakistani wedding celebration with us on September 16, 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom. Instead of traditional Pakistani food that is customarily served, Ayaz wanted to give his guests a break from the norm and decided to serve delicious Mediterrean cuisine instead from a local restaurant. Ayaz planned the details of the event on his own and all the way from Michigan as well so I didn't even have a chance to meet him until the actual event day. Purple has been such a popular wedding color for us this year and Ayaz also used purple along with gold as his main color scheme. I love the use of a stage with a loveseat on it for the Bride and Groom to sit on and receive guests throughout the evening and also for photo sessions as well. The highlight of the day for me was meeting the beautiful bride Saba and seeing her in her gorgeous pink beaded gown that just popped against the purple backdrop.

Congratulations on your marriage Ayaz and Saba and we wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

Richelle and Jim Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Dec 18, 2012 - 4:46pm

Richelle and Jim held their wedding reception with us on September 15, 2012 and filled our Cerritos Ballroom with over 300 of their closest family and friends! With the Bride of Filipino heritage and the Groom Irish, I knew we were in for a rip roaring party with a long night of dancing! Family and friends were excited for this special day, and more than once I heard from guests that Richelle and Jim getting married was a long time coming. Richelle was adamant that her wedding was going to be "the best one ever!" and planned her event with precision down to the last detail with a little Disney flair. Plum purple was the main color scheme and the sweetheart table and cake table were given a little sparkle from the antique lace overlay with sequins. The lace carried over to Richelle's custom made bridal gown with lace sleeves, bodice and trim. Little black Mickey Mouse shapes were tucked into the centerpieces and the tables were named after Disney movies. The usual sweetheart table backdrop even got a little extra flair from custom silk flowers that were scattered across it. Matching organza plum overlays and chaircover sashes completed the decor. Even the handmade menu and reception itinerary cards had crystals attached to it for extra sparkle. The guests certainly had a blast and this was confirmed when Richelle emailed me from her honeymoon to say:

"Hi Cathy. Thank you again for everything! Everyone had a blast!!!!"

Congratulations Richelle and Jim! I had a blast working with you to plan "the best wedding ever!"

Larissa and Jeremy's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Larissa and Jeremy held their wedding reception with us on September 8, 2012 inside the Cerritos Ballroom and infused the hotel with pops of purple color everywhere! The fun loving couple made sure their wedding guests were entertained with a photobooth, and gave nods to their Asian heritage by incorporating cherry blossoms on their placecards and table numbers and using orchids for their centerpieces. I loved the Mickey and Minnie cake topper they used for their wedding cake, which also was decorated simply with ribbon and orchids. This relatively simple design ended up being such a stunner, it ranks as one of my favorite cakes of the year. Larissa and Jeremy were so easy to work with, it made my job super easy to ensure they had the perfect wedding day. Jeremy sent me the following email after the wedding:

"Hi Cathy! Thanks so much for being a super helpful and accommodating catering manager for the Sheraton. I know a lot of demands and changes were made up to the very last minute, but I appreciate your willingness to work with Larissa and I (and my mom!). The information you provided us really helped us along in terms of planning every step of the wedding reception and everything honestly went so smoothly. I would also like to thank the banquet captains Helio Rodriguez and Barbara Reeder for definitely going above and beyond to make sure we were able to taste everything. I was not expecting to be able to taste any of the appetizers but thanks to them, Larissa and I got 4 of each to try! Also, when I was only able to take a few bites of the main course (due mostly to nerves), they were kind enough to wrap it up and deliver it to our room to be able to eat on our own time later. Overall, the experience with everyone at the Sheraton was excellent. Thanks so much! ~Jeremy p.s. I think Larissa will be formulating her own thank you email as well. She had a tremendous time and would like to echo her thanks to you personally."

Larissa later on sent me the following thank you card using a photo I took personally from the wedding!

"Hi Cathy! Thank you so much for all your help and making our wedding extra special! We really appreciate you and everything you did to organize and make our reception run smoothly. Your staff were great and we really appreciate they made sure we were okay during the dinner and they made our guests comfortable as well. Thank you so much and we really enjoyed working with you! Love, Jeremy and Larissa Yuan P.S. Thanks for the picture! We used it for all our thank you cards! :) "

Cindy and Jesse's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Cindy and Jesse held their wedding reception with us in the Cerritos Ballroom on September 1, 2012 to kick off the Labor Day Weekend. Since the Cerritos Ballroom can be split into 3 sections, they started with cocktails in one section of the ballroom and followed with dinner and dancing in the other two sections. Fun fact: Cindy and Jesse have been together as a couple for over a decade and have an adorable son so all of their families and friends were eagerly awaiting this day to celebrate their union. And celebrate they did with an 8 piece live band that played the whole night long and filled the Hotel with music! Topped off with a super cool color scheme of yellow and platinum gray, the Cerritos Ballroom looked ultra hip and modern. A member of Cindy's family gifted the happy couple with a wedding cake and also custom decorated cake pops to serve as favors. Topped off with a photobooth, all of Cindy and Jesse's guests parties and danced into the night. After the wedding, Cindy sent me the following comments after I emailed her some of the photos I took below:

"Cathy the pictures are AWESOME!!! Thank you. And we are still working on our thank you card :) Just finished the survey. Nothing but excellent and great comments for you and your team. Thank you Cathy! Cindy"

Congratulations Cindy and Jesse! I loved helping you plan your beautiful wedding and wish you all the best!

Native Cerritos Residents Diane and Arturo held their wedding reception with us on August 11, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom and brightened everyone's spirits with tangerine orange as their main color scheme. Walking into the ballroom, you couldn't help but smile at seeing all the colorful centerpieces which mirrored Diane's own beautiful bridal bouquet. I feel that each Bride and Groom expresses their personality through the wedding decor they choose and in this instance, I felt the bright tangerine orange truly matched Diane and Arturo's sunny dispositions! They were both equally involved in the planning of their celebration, and were so calm, serene and happy about the process that everytime I spoke with them it brought a smile to my face. When I saw Diane in her gorgeous fluffy dress on the day of the wedding for the first time, it just topped off the event for me. I am sure you will agree when you see the photos below!

Did you know that we can offer a traditional Chinese Banquet with 8 to 10 courses here at the Sheraton Cerritos? One of our preferred outside catering partners is Furiwa, reknowned Chinese restaurant and caterer located conveniently in Garden Grove. On July 28, 2012, we partnered up with Furiwa to offer Janice and Nora a delicious Chinese feast in our Cerritos Ballroom for their wedding reception. Furiwa sets up a portable kitchen on the Hotel premises, and cooks every course right before it's served so the food is absolutely fresh and authentic. I bet you are wondering what was served that night? Get ready...

1. Seven Star Cold Platter

2. Fish Tripe Crabmeat Soup

3. Candied Walnut Shrimp and Shrimp Ball

4. Seafood Braised Duck

5. Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet

6. Furiwa House Special Lobster

7. Garlic Noodles

8. Fresh Fruit

YUM! In addition to the amazing food, the Cerritos Ballroom was tastefully decorated in neutal shades of white and ivory with bright blue uplights as contrast. What made the night even more special was seeing Janice and Nora's 5 different Cambodian wedding outfits to honor Nora's cultural heritage. Outfit changes are typical in Asian weddings but Janice and Nora really took it to the next level with their 5 matching outfits and even had a fashion show during the event as well.

Congratulations Janice and Nora! We loved being a part of your fashion and food wedding extravaganza!

Abegail and Simon Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

Abegail and Simon were married on July 28, 2012 and held their ceremony at the Fountain venue and their reception in the Crystal Ballroom. On her first visit to the Hotel, Abegail fell in love with the "art deco" style of the Crystal Ballroom and knew it would be a perfect fit with the vintage hollywood glamour theme she was envisioning for her special day.  Fast forward to the wedding day itself, where Abegail decided to keep the Fountain in its natural state and not add any additional floral decor to the venue. Lisa and I were so busy overseeing the ceremony that we didn't have a chance to take any photos! However, the Crystal Ballroom was a different story. Bedecked in black linens and black chaircovers with red sashes and red napkins, Abegail brought her "vintage hollywood" vision to life. She even hand made all the centerpieces that doubled as table numbers with sparkly disco balls inside. The wedding cake looked as if it was covered in intricate lace and tassels. There wasn't a floral centerpiece in sight, which made this wedding truly unique. Congratulations Abegail and Simon! You deserve an Academy Award for producing such a spectacular celebration!

Michele and Travis Wedding Ceremony (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Sep 12, 2012 - 7:22pm

Michele and Travis held their wedding ceremony with us in the Garden Terrace Patio on July 21, 2012 in one of the hottest days of the year.  Even so, my Bride and Groom didn't even break a sweat as they exchanged vows under the Hotel's white arbor arch decorated in Tiffany blue, white florals and hanging crystal beads. Their family and friends also braved the heat to witness the humorous and thoughful ceremony conducted by Pastor Larry, which had me laughing and tearful at the same time.

As can happen at weddings, a little snafu with some missing florals to honor the Mothers with had me scrambling to obtain flowers from a local florist at the last minute. It didn't matter to me that the Hotel wasn't responsible for the floral decor - I just know I had to get the flowers in time before the ceremony started so Michele and Travis had their perfect ceremony!

After the ceremony, Michele and Travis took photos around the Hotel and then headed to the Cerritos Library where their reception was being held in the Skyline room. I received the following email from Michele and Travis after their wedding:

"Good Evening Cathy,

First and foremost Travis and I would like to thank you for everything you did for us on our special day.  Everything went off without a hitch because of you.  We really appreciate and are thankful that you went that extra mile and got us our roses for the "Mother Rose Ceremony." I had no idea when you called up to my room that anything was wrong and that the florist did not bring the two roses. You just calmly asked, "So Michele could you explain to me what the roses look like?" I would have flipped my lid if I knew that they were not there.  Our guests especially enjoyed the complimentary [spa infused] water at the ceremony.  The water won them over because it was so hot that day.  Everyone at the Sheraton has great customer service skills. We can't wait to stay there again, even though we only live two miles away.

Thanks Again, Travis and Michele Montalbo"

Congratulations Michele and Travis! It was such a pleasure working with the two of you and I appreciate how easy going and calm you were as Brides and Grooms. Hope to see you around town!

Tayaba and Zafar Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Tayaba and Zafar also held their wedding reception with us on July 8, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom, rounding off a busy July 4th weekend of weddings for us!

Tayaba had reserved her celebration with us prior to my tenure at the Sheraton Cerritos, so I didn't have the pleasure of meeting her until we started detailing her event. Luckily, I was blessed to have a detailed and organized Bride in Tayaba who knew exactly what she wanted! With her sisters by her side as the wedding coordinators, the wedding itself ran like clockwork.

When I walked into the completed Cerritos Ballroom on the day of the wedding, I was absolutely floored. Tayaba had outdone herself with the decor for the event. Red and gold colors glowed within every inch of the Cerritos Ballroom, from the two different red centerpieces and gold pintucked satin linens, to the gold chiavari chairs and red carpet leading up to the golden stage enhanced with red florals. Words truly cannot express how gorgeous the Cerritos Ballroom looked, so enjoy the photos I took below.

Tayaba left me a lovely thank you voicemail and also sent me the following email after the wedding:

"Hello Cathy,

I actually personally wanted to come by and say Thank You for being such a great support to make my wedding reception even more special. But as you know I had moved a day after my wedding. But my husband, and I,  and especially my family would like to Thank You So Much for all your guidance and support. My wedding was the first wedding in my family and the same with my husbands family. Therefore, we were not very familiar with everything and I was so happy and grateful to have you as my wedding coordinator as you guided me with all the vendors and what is available to me as the Bride and having my Reception at Sheraton. I am truly happy with my experience at Sheraton and especially having you as my coordinator Cathy. My family and I will consider Cerritos location for our future events. Thank you once again.

Sincerely, Tayaba and Zafar"

Congratulations Tayaba and Zafar! Thank you for allowing me to enjoy such beautiful wedding decor and to have the honor of working together. You didn't book your wedding here with me but we were meant to work together on your special day!

Michelle and Bob Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

Michelle and Bob held their Hawaiian themed wedding and reception with us in the Garden Terrace Ballroom on Sunday, July 8, 2012. The Bride and Groom actually reside in Hawaii and had a separate wedding reception there first. However, since Michelle is originally from Cerritos and the majority of her family still lives in the area, the Bride's sister Annabelle found us as the venue to host their local intimate gathering. Annabelle worked hard to plan all the details of the wedding for her sister and enlisted the help of their closest family members to bring multiple tropical centerpieces, lush floral decor and sea inspired votive candles to give off the Hawaiian vibe to their guests. The ceremony was actually held on the dance floor with the guests sitting at their round tables for dinner, which was very convenient as the wedding meal was served immediately afterwards without a wait! For the wedding cake, guests were lucky to enjoy both a traditional cake and cupcakes as well.

I received the following lovely notes from Michelle and Bob as well as Anabelle after the wedding:

"Cathy, Words cannot express the gratitude that we feel for all your overwhelming help and support.  This “dream wedding” came true smoothly simply because you went over and beyond your already superior service.  THANK YOU SO MUCH! ALOHA!!! Michelle and Bob"

"I am extremely happy with my choice for the wedding venue of my sister.  I was not disappointed because Cathy Cheng who was in charge of Catering and the hotel’s wedding/event coordinator went over and beyond her service to make sure we get the “dream wedding” I envisioned for my sister Michelle on that day, July 8, at Sheraton Hotel.  She was thorough and did everything she could to work within the budget that my sister gave, and the wedding looked lavish and costly, yet it was very reasonably priced!  Also, the waiters, Catering supervisor, bellman, bartender, etc., were all professionally trained and hospitable.  Everyone had a grand time that day, and it made the bride and the groom cry with joy!  It was an experience she (my sister) would always carry in her heart.  We are now planning to celebrate my 50th birthday next year on that same venue! Most of the guests were happy and was asking on how to celebrate their special events on this particular hotel because it was all praises about our experience.  Definitely 5 star!!!  I highly recommend CATHY CHENG!!!  She was the heart and soul that made our experience at Sheraton Hotel truly unforgettable. -Annabelle (Sister of Bride)"

Thank you Michelle, Bob and Annabelle! It was truly an honor to work with all of you in planning your dream celebration! Congratulations and Aloha until next time!

Maria and Luis Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Aug 24, 2012 - 12:15pm

Maria and Luis held their wedding reception with us on July 7, 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom. The Bride and Groom told me from the start that since this was the second marriage for both, they didn't want to be so "traditional" and just wanted to have a great time celebrating their union. They had the same relaxed attitude during the whole planning process and barely let anything faze them. Fast forward to the wedding day itself, where temperatures were soaring under the hot July sun yet Maria and Luis remained calm, cool and collected. This is how all my brides and grooms should be before and on their wedding day!

The Crystal Ballroom glowed with amber uplights and the tables and chairs were covered in black and enhanced with champagne organza sashes. This definitely was not traditional wedding decor colors but don't you think the Crystal Ballroom looks so "chic?!" I absolutely loved the modern vibe and guests were floored when they walked into the ballroom.

Guests danced the night away to spanish music and everytime I peeked into the Crystal Ballroom to check in on the event, I saw big smiles on Maria and Luis' faces. I definitely think their goal was achieved in having a great time.

I received the following email from the happy couple after their honeymoon:

"Hi Cathy,
Sorry for the late response it's been a little hectic but things are finally going back to normal. We are really happy with the way everything turned out.  We got a lot of comments on how well organized everything was and how everything ran so smoothly, however, the main topic was the appetizers...We still have people talking about them! Unfortunately Luis didn't get to try them and I only tried two but everyone loved them!  The whole staff was so nice and helpful, including with the ladies at the front desk, the reception staff, and you.  Felipe was excellent, he took really good care of us.  He has a great personality and is very profesional, he made sure we got a really nice meal sent to our room (just like you instructed) after the reception.  I'm so thankful you thought about that because once I took my wedding dress off I was starving! LOL. Cathy I really have no words to tell you how much I appreciate everything you did for us.  The main reason I picked the Sheraton over the other venue we had in mind was because of you.  You were the only person who showed interest by emailing us to follow up and you included my son (who came with us to see the venue) and remembered his name which made the whole experience more intimate and special.  You are very knowledgeable and I knew that from our first meeting, you are excellent at what you do! The day of our wedding I didn't have to worry about anything, you were always ahead of the game. You were always so pleasant and helpful.  You even suggested the statue garden for our pictures, and let me tell you those are some of the most beautiful ones we got.  I will send you one soon.  Thanks a million! We really did have a wonderful experience at the Sheraton!

Sincerely, Maria and Luis"

Congratulations Maria and Luis and thank you so much for the kind words! It was an honor to assist you with your special day!

Rohit and Shivali’s Groom's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Posted in Weddings

Rohit and Shivali held their Groom's Wedding Reception with us on July 1, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom. As customary with some outside catering weddings we host, I didn't even meet the Bride and Groom until the wedding day and planned the whole event with the Parents of the Groom, Romi and Rakesh along with the Sister of the Groom, Reema. At times, I joked with Reema that this was becoming more like her wedding celebration with all the decisions she had to make for the event! Besides being the planner, Reema also was the MC and even performed a dance as entertainment for guests.

The Cerritos Ballroom was decorated with tables featuring black linens with a white table runner, topped with purple floral centerpieces and surrounded by white chiavari chairs with black cushions. Purple uplighting warmed up the ballroom and enhanced the white draping that covered the entire back wall of the Cerritos Ballroom. A round white dancefloor flanked by white benches for guests to sit at while others danced completed the modern look of the event. The unique color combination used was definitely fun to admire.

Congratulations on your marriage Rohit and Shivali! With such a supportive family by your side, happiness is guaranteed for your life together.

Sharon and Jeff Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak)!

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Aug 17, 2012 - 10:31pm

Sharon and Jeff held their wedding reception with us on June 30, 2012 in the Crystal Ballroom. Their wedding was truly a multicultural event, as the Bride and Groom performed a traditional Korean Pae Baek ceremony to honor the Bride's heritage in front of all their guests. Customarily, the Pae Baek is a Korean wedding ritual where the Groom's family formally accepts the Bride into their home. Thinking of Jeff in his traditional Korean outfit always puts a smile to my face!

The Crystal Ballroom was decorated in the unique colors of soft sage green and red, which I loved because it was different than what you usually see for a wedding. Personalized CD favors accented the table at guests' placesetting with songs chosen by the Bride and Groom.

I loved meeting with Sharon and Jeff in person because I knew I would be laughing the entire time. Sharon was the more serious, business-like Bride who wanted to make sure the wedding plans were in place, and all Jeff wanted to do was grab a beer and crack jokes. The two of them together are really the perfect comedic pair. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats and having Jeff's family stay over at the Hotel over the wedding weekend and finding them at the main bar day and night!

The Bride and Groom sent me the following messages after the wedding:

"Cathy, Thank you soooo much!! You were the most wonderful, bestest and awesome wedding coordinator ever. A true professional! And we got tons of compliments on the serving staff also. Jeff is going to talk to your boss to give you a 100% raise.  I will come by to thank you in person the next time we are in town.  Sharon & Jeff"

Congratulations Sharon and Jeff! Can't wait to see the both of you the next time you two are in town!

Musab and Zara's Groom's Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Following the Bride's Reception, Musab and Zara held the Groom's Reception here with us on June 24, 2012 in the Cerritos Ballroom. To make sure that the ballroom looked completely different from the Bride's Reception just two day ago, Musab had the ballroom decorated in cooler shades of pinks and light purples. The stage for this celebration provided a completely different feel with its more modern white leather couches but was just as stunning. The Groom's family's restaurant catered both events and guests were treated to a variety of delicious ethnic cuisine.

Musab and Zara, it was a pleasure working with the two of you and your families to host your wedding weekend. Best wishes on a lifetime of happiness together!

Zara and Musab Bride's Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Posted in Weddings

We have been so busy hosting weddings here every weekend this Summer that I haven't had the chance to blog for you! Don't you worry - slowly but surely I will be sharing each and every wedding with you.

Zara and Musab held two weddings events here with us in the Cerritos Ballroom and the first was the Bride's Reception on June 22, 2012. Zara's parents, Sunny and Lourdes, wholeheartedly oversaw every single detail of this event for Zara to ensure she had an amazing celebration for their family and friends. The Cerritos Ballroom was beautifully decorated in shades of reds and golds and the highlight of the room was certainly the elaborate stage and walkway created for the Bride and Groom's processional. A variety of different floral centerpieces adorned the guest tables and the gobo projection of the Bride's and Groom's names crowned the wedding cake table. The whole ballroom seemed to glow with warmth and I remember marveling at how perfectly coordinated everything looked.

I received the following amazing thank you letter from Sunny and Lourdes after the celebration:

"Hello Cathy,

Just wanted to thank you and your staff for a great turnout on June 22, 2012 for Zara and Musab's wedding.  Our experience at Cerritos Sheraton was amazing, your staff was very attentive to all our needs.  Thank you Cathy for being there and making sure everything was as planned.  Thank you to your Banquet Captain, Barbara Reeder and your staff Juan V., Raul, Martha, Carlos, Joann, Debbie, Ruben and Victor, they could not have been anymore attentive. Barbara was always asking my husband and I if we needed anything.

One of your servers in the early start of the event was very attentive to the set up of the tables, I noticed how she corrected another server on the set up of the tables and the favors. To me that told me that they really cared for a great turnout on our event and took pride on what they were doing and as a former server and banquet server myself, i know that these events to become routine.  Your team was amazing!!! We did not at anytime worried about anything and as you might know that is priceless.

Cathy, please please thank all you staff that night on our behalf (Sunny, Zara and Lourdes). Thank you for being very attentive and always suggesting on ways to better the event. Bianca's Debut!

Submitted by Lisa Lifton on Aug 09, 2012 - 9:06pm
Posted in Debuts and Cotillions|Special Events

Bianca celebrated her 18th Birthday with us on June 16, 2012 by holding her Debut in the Cerritos Ballroom. A Debut is a traditional Filipino coming-of-age celebration for young women.

As any proud father would be, Bianca's Father Jesse was involved in the entire process from the beginning to ensure that his daughter would have a wonderful Debut. You could tell just by speaking with Jesse how excited he was to be able to show all their family and friends the beautiful young woman Bianca had become.

Cue the serenading music of a live violinist.  Enter the ballroom to find Bianca sitting at a two-tiered head table draped with turquoise sashes and a spotlight focused on her.  Watch a preview of Bianca’s video montage, a presentation dear to Jesse’s heart.  Await Bianca and her court to entertain with her cotillion dance.  Marvel at the impressive homemade multi-tiered cake stand decorated with carefully placed paper mache butterflies.

As Bianca greeted each guest, her parents enjoyed watching the daughter they had raised and smiled proudly as guests commented on how beautiful Bianca had become, both inside and out.

Congratulations on your milestone Bianca! We wish you the best in all your future endeavors!

Crystal and Jonathan Thank You!

My lovely Bride Crystal who was married on June 9, 2012 just sent me the following heart warming email today:

"Hello Cathy,

We had the most wonderful experience at the Sheraton Cerritos! All the Hotel staff, particularly Barbara, Christina and Martha, were amazing. I could not have asked for a better staff to overlook the wedding reception. Barbara was the sweetest. She made sure that I was okay the whole night and she even heated my food so I can finish it later that night! I felt so bad for the bartender. I had a group of guys setting up their tent right in front of him. Haha.

And of course, you were the best! My brother told me, "I thought your catering manager was your friend from the way you guys talk to each other!" I knew I chose the Sheraton Cerritos for a reason. When I spoke with other vendors and their catering manager/wedding planner, I did not get a sense of professionalism from them AT ALL. I needed someone who was going to be ON SPOT with me and someone who I can communicate with without waiting for more than 24 hours. Haha.Thank you for making this experience easier for me. God knows Jon didn't help, but the fact that you and the Hotel staff made sure that everything was perfect, made the day a lot less stressful!

I can go on and on about how wonderful our experience was with you guys. But I think you get the point. :) Everything came out so well and the room was beautiful!

Thank you, Crystal"

Thank YOU Crystal for making my day and for recognizing the staff's dedication in servicing our events!

Crystal and Jonathan's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Jun 12, 2012 - 9:15pm

Crystal and Jonathan were married at the stunning glass Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes overlooking the water and held their wedding reception with us in the equally stunning Crystal Ballroom on June 9, 2012!

Breaking from the popular wedding colors we've seen lately of purples, pinks and reds, Crystal and Jonathan decided to infuse their celebration with shades of royal blue. The choice of color was definitely a nod to Jonathan's United States Marine Corp background, as even the Groom opted to wear his official "Blue-White" dress uniform instead of a tuxedo.

This was the first time I had the honor of coordinating a Marine's wedding and it was a thrill to see Crystal and Jonathan cut their wedding cake with the Groom's sword. Since Jonathan was on duty for the duration of the wedding planning, Crystal single handedly planned the wedding details. The Bride created the trio of candle centerpieces, handmade custom placecards with key charms tied to them and customized a blue candy buffet station. The couple even played DJ as they selected their own songlist to play through our house sound system. Friends of the Bride acted as MC's for the event. All the wedding elements had a true personal touch to it, which made the wedding that much more special for all the guests in attendance.

Crystal and Jonathan, you were such an easy going and wonderful couple to work with. Thank you both for your service to our country and for allowing me to assist in your special day. Congratulations on your marriage!

How cool is this photo of the Bride and Groom with his sword right before they cut the cake?!

I love the shades of blue! Crystal absolutely had to have the blue uplights and I'm glad she did!

It's always so crazy on wedding days that I hardly ever have the opportunity to take a photo with my Brides and Grooms. Imagine my surprise when I opened an email from Jennifer today (whose wedding was held with us on May 19, 2012) and saw the photo below and the following note:

"I need to thank you for all your hard work, our wedding and reception could not have gone any smoother without your support and care. We are truly blessed you were our wedding coordinator and I will refer your name and the Cerritos Sheraton to all the couples I know that get engaged.... Miss you a ton. Please keep in touch. Jenn"

This photo just makes me smile! Thanks Jenn!

Sonu and Shelly Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Jun 07, 2012 - 2:54pm

I had the pleasure of working with the Parents of the Groom, Santosh and Mahesh, to plan the Groom's portion of Sonu and Shelly's wedding reception on June 2, 2012.

This date was meaningful to me as my husband and I celebrated our own 5 year wedding anniversary that day, so I certainly felt a kinship to Sonu and Shelly as they enjoyed their special day.

As the Bride and Groom were both working out of state, Santosh and Mahesh worked diligently to plan the perfect event for their son. Since they are Cerritos Residents themselves, it was easy for them to stop by and chat regarding their event details instead of calling or emailing. I thoroughly enjoyed our meetings, because you can tell they were so genuinely excited and earnest to cover all the details to ensure their son and future daughter-in-law's happiness.

On the big day, our Crystal Ballroom glowed with twinkle lights on the stage decorated in red and purple uplights around the room. Our burgundy banquet chairs and burgundy napkins complimented the red and pink floral centerpieces. All the female guests wore stunning saris and traditional garb but I couldn't stop admiring Shelly in her pink beaded sari - she was quite the vision!

I received the following kind email from the Father of the Groom after the wedding:

"Hi Cathy,

We greatly appreciate your help in our son's wedding reception on June 2. Our friends and guest were very happy. Banquet Captain Barbara Reeder and other staff  Patty, Juan V., and Carlos did wonderful work. We will recomend our friends to do receptions here. Please forward my message to your General Manager.

Thanks a lot, Mahesh Jain"

Congratulations Santosh and Mahesh on a job well done as well!

Congratulations Sonu and Shelly on your marriage!

Karren and Adrian Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Jun 07, 2012 - 2:04pm

Karren and Adrian were married at our Fountain venue and held their reception in our Garden Terrace Patio and Ballroom on May 26, 2012.

In a unique twist, because the Bride didn't want their guests sitting underneath the sun during the wedding ceremony, we flipped the customary seating at our Fountain venue so the guests were facing the Hotel instead of the Cerritos Performing Arts Center. This section of the Fountain is always shaded in the late afternoon, and allows for a unique walk around the Fountain itself to the altar instead of the traditional walk down the aisle.

Karren and Adrian are such a sweet couple! Case in point, even though Karren was a little nervous on their big day, Adrian kept making jokes and funny faces throughout the day to ease Karren's nerves and make her laugh. I got to tag along a bit at their photo session to see their couple shots and it warmed my heart to see how playful the Bride and Groom were with one another.

The event itself was very intimate, as only 80 of their closest family and friends joined in their celebration. Family members even flew all the way from the Philippines for Karren and Adrian's wedding! The ever popular purple color scheme decorated the Garden Terrace Ballroom, enhanced by fuschia uplights. Karren even hand made aromatic diffuser favors and custom menu cards to personalize the event for her guests. A slideshow created by the Bride and Groom filled with personal photos was played at the reception and brought tears to many of the guests!

Upon returning to the office after the wedding, Karren and Adrian personally stopped by to say thank you and presented me with the most yummy cake and treats from Porto's and the following card:

"Dear Cathy,

First of all, Adrian, me and my family would like to thank you for all your help during the wedding and all through out the entire wedding preparation. You've been so accommodating and very pleasant since we've met and have always being on top of things and have always an immediate answer to all my questions and concerns. It made the wedding prcoess not as stressful as others would describe it. Thank you for taking care of everything during the wedding. Your personal touch is greatly appreciated. We couldn't thank you enough. God bless and hope our paths will cross again.

Take care, Adrian and Karren Ramos"

A sweet couple indeed! Congratulations Karren and Adrian! I know you will enjoy a lifetime of happiness together, especially with such amazing families supporting both of you.

Here I am trying to emmulate the wedding photographers!

I took the ceremony aisle flowers and reused them to decorate the sweetheart table and cake table!

Adriana and Shazan Wedding (Sneak Peak!)

Submitted by Cathy Cheng on Jun 06, 2012 - 9:46pm

Adriana and Shazan had a multicultural wedding celebration with us at the start of the Memorial Holiday Weekend on May 25, 2012 where the Bride's Mexican heritage fused with the Sri Lankan Groom's. The happy couple choose to serve Indian food to all their guests which allowed quite a few novices to the food the opportunity to try this delicious cuisine.

After an initial scare with the possibility of light rain on the wedding day(!), Adriana and Shazan were eventually married underneath clear skies by an Imam. Instead of the traditional standing at the altar, the Bride, Groom and Imam were all seated instead, which I'm sure Adriana appreciated in her heels!

"Pretty in Pink" was the theme of the day as the Fountain Venue and the Cerritos Ballroom were decorated with an abundance of pink florals. I couldn't help but feel giddy with excitement as the decor was being set up since pink is one of the colors I used for my own wedding! Champagne linens, hanging votive candles and vibrant pink uplights rounded out the look for the Cerritos Ballroom which gave it a romantic and warm glow. The guest tables were named after meaningful locations for the Bride and Groom ranging from Trincomalee to Hermosillo to Santa Monica, which personalized the venue for the guests even more.

The first time I met Adriana and Shazan, it was at our Bridal Open House last October as when I joined the Sheraton Cerritos, their wedding had already been booked at the Hotel. I couldn't help but tell them what a good looking couple they made and their wedding day was no exception!

Congratulations Adriana and Shazan! The two of you make such a beautiful couple and I just loved the stunning Bridal Gown and touch of pink on the Groom's tie.

This wedding cake table was to die for - the lace, the crystal brooch embellishments and wedding cake - all in shades of pink!

A special thank you goes out to the following wedding vendors, especially Naomi, Kerim and Steven, whom I've had the pleasure of working with at previous weddings, especially at my last Hotel. It was a joy to work with them again here at the Sheraton Cerritos!

Candi and Jonathan's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

May 19, 2012 was a busy evening for us as Candi and Jonathan also held their wedding reception here in our Cerritos Ballroom. From our very first meeting, I knew that this couple had grand plans for their celebration and would execute their vision to perfection. The photos I took do not show their wedding reception justice, as our grand ballroom was transformed into a starry wonderland with billowy satin draping, custom lighting and a color scheme of purple, silver and white.

Jonathan wanted to dance with his new wife underneath the stars so our signature crystal chandeliers were dimmed to the lowest setting possible to create the effect. As Candi and Jonathan met at a wine bar, the guest tables were appropriately named after different types of wine and there was also a giveaway bottle of wine at each table. Guests were also able to take home personalized stemless wine glasses as favors. To keep guests entertained and enjoying the celebration from beginning to end, there was a photobooth, a candy buffet as well as blackjack tables too! Guests were stuffed from eating all the delicious food personally selected by the Bride and Groom including a combination Grilled New York Steak and Herb Breast of Chicken Madeira entree.

A special thank you goes out to Sara Holland and her team of At Your Door Events who coordinated the day to perfection and ensured that Candi and Jonathan were able to enjoy their day without stress!

Congratulations Candi and Jonathan! It was a honor to assist the two of you with your wedding plans and seeing how happy the two of you were along with your guests that evening made my night!

Jennifer and Ted's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

Jenn and Ted were married on May 19, 2012 and held their wedding reception with us in our modern and stylish Crystal Ballroom. From the very beginning, they made it known that they wanted their wedding to be "a good time" for their family and friends. How did they make this happen? By bringing in an Elvis impersonator as their DJ and entertainment, serving a beer kegs at the bars, Jenn performing a surprise hula dance for her new husband and using Skyy Vodka bottles with peacock feathers as part of their centerpieces! The wedding guests were definitely wild and lively, and partied throughout the evening while keeping our bartenders busy. Mission accomplished, Jenn and Ted!

Fun fact: Jenn wins the award to date of most emails received from a Bride! On the days I wouldn't receive an email from her, I felt like something was missing from my day! It was such fun planning the wedding with Jenn and Ted, and they actually publicly thanked me in front of all their guests during dinner. That just made my night.

Congratulations Jenn and Ted! You pulled off a fun yet touching wedding reception at the same time. The invitation always stands: you're both welcome to come help me set up wedding favors for my other weddings anytime! :)

Candace and Arvin's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peak!)

I still remember the first day that I met Candace and Arvin!  I gave them a site tour and as any Bride and Groom would be, both were excited to get married to the love of their lives but were also completely nervous with all the details that came with planning a wedding.  As I told them that first day and throughout the months leading to their special day, the most important thing is that the two of them are getting married and celebrating their love for each other.  All the details will fall into place and I would be there every step of the way to help in any way I could.  My Director of Catering Irene and I thought it was a pleasure working with both of them as they prepared for their wedding.

The day had finally arrived on May 5, 2012 and the Cerritos Ballroom looked gorgeous! From the elegant backdrop behind their sweetheart table to the beautiful floral centerpieces in tall, elegant vases to the white chair covers with burgundy satin sashes, our signature grand ballroom was a sight to be seen!  Candace looked stunning and Arvin looked handsome, both wearing white and beaming as they were ready to get the night started and begin their lives together as husband and wife!

Take a look for yourself at all the special details that Candace and Arvin put together for their celebration, down to the custom seating chart and combination table number and reception itinerary!

I also received the following thank you note from their wedding coordinator, Nicole, after the wedding:

"Lisa, I just wanted to thank you for all your help with Candace and Arvin’s wedding.  Your quickness in responding to the emails and helping with any questions on the day of the wedding made things run smoothly for the couple.  I look forward to working with you on future events. Thanks! Nicole, Events by NV"

Having had a recent streak of large and festive weddings in our Cerritos Ballroom, it was refreshing to have a more intimate affair take place in our charming Garden Terrace Ballroom. Fatima and Syed held their wedding reception with us on May 11, 2012 and transformed our smallest ballroom with glowing gold colors. Anees, the Father of the Bride and Syed, the Groom's Brother (all the way from Canada!), meticulously hand selected each detail to bring the wedding to life, from the color of the linens, napkins, chaircover sashes and even down to the flower decor in the Bride and Groom's honeymoon suite! The Father of the Bride sent me the following thank you note via email:
"Hi Cathy,
Many thanks to you and Sheraton staff for making everything run so smoothly and without a glitch. You have it down like a clockwork. I would like to express special thanks to the Marian, Christina and Fillipe. I think their job is particularly difficult because they stick around until the end and then they still have to wrap up everything. Also, my thanks to Lisa for putting up with our 2-3 phone calls a day, changing head counts, asking to change the rooms, etc.
Thanks again for everything.

On Sunday, May 6, 2012, the Sheraton Cerritos had our most lively outside catering wedding to date! Jignesh and Roshni held the Groom's Reception portion of their wedding celebration here with us and the sheer number of their friends that came out for the festivities kept the Hotel rocking until the wee hours of the morning. I had the fortune of planning the event with the Sister of the Groom, Dipali, who orchestrated the entire event like a seasoned wedding planner. She even acted as Master of Ceremony for part of the event, and watching her rehearse her speech before the event started was truly inspiring. The Cerritos Ballroom was decorated in deep shades of royal blue and accented with white satin butterfly chaircovers, and the whole effect indeed had a "royal" feel to it!

Congratulations Jignesh and Roshni! We wish you a lifetime of happiness together!

Also while I was on vacation, Diana and David were married at our Fountain venue and held their reception in the Cerritos Ballroom on April 21, 2012. Lisa was present to coordinate their wedding day in my absence and upon return to the office, I received these lovely thank you notes to myself and Lisa:

"Dearest Cathy, From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you for all your help and thoughtful words through this whole process. We really wished you could’ve been here to celebrate with us, but we understand. This day wouldn’t have been special without your help and advice. I hope you enjoyed your trip with your family. I hope to see you again. Thank you Cathy! Love, David and Diana"

"Dearest Lisa, We want to thank you for all the help you have assisted us with.  Our day couldn’t have been completed or have gone smoothly as it did without your presence.  From day one, you have been there to make this day special for us, and it was amazing. Thank you so much Lisa! David and Diana"

From the following pictures that Lisa took on the wedding day,  it seemed like a perfect day for Diana and David to exchange vows in front of the Fountain with the Cerritos Performing Arts Center as the backdrop.

The charming and dapper Groom David alongside his glowing and beautiful Bride Diana! What a dress!

Even though I knew David and Diana were in good hands with Lisa, being the control freak of a Catering Manager that I am (!), I couldn't help but wonder how the wedding was coming along on the day of (all the way from China!). Diana took such care with all the details of her wedding day, down to the color sash to match her Bridesmaid's dresses, that I so wanted to be present on the day of the wedding to see her walk down the aisle. In the end, I'm just happy knowing that Diana and David were happy with their wedding celebration here at the Sheraton Cerritos, and these two wonderful people found each other!

Congratulations Diana and David! I had such fun planning your wedding with the two of you and can't wait to touch base with you when you return from your honeymoon to hear all the details.

Wedding Season has officially started and a big congratulations to Nadia and Omar! While I was on vacation in Shanghai attending a wedding myself, Nadia and Omar held the Bride's Reception of their wedding festivities here with us on April 22, 2012 in our grand Cerritos Ballroom. Since I wasn't able to take photos of the event myself, I wanted to share with you their engagement photos to show you how adorably cute this couple is!

Nadia's Father Zahid was my main contact for the event and he was thorough and detailed to the very end to ensure that his beautiful daughter had just as beautiful of an event. While I was so disappointed I wasn't able to see their event happen, I knew that my colleagues would take good care of them on the day of the wedding! I heard that Nadia was breathtaking on the wedding day and the dress she wore was so intricate with handbeading, it must have weighed 20 pounds!

Below were all the vendors that made Nadia and Omar's event a success:

Hi Everyone!

Did you get to meet Lisa and I at The Debut Show this past Friday evening held at The Villa in Westminster? Besides chatting with Brides, Grooms and Vendors, we braved the cold outside in their patio while sipping delicious lychee cocktails and munched on scrumptious Asian Fusion hors d'oeuvres provided by Furiwa Chinese Seafood Restaurant Furiwa invited us to participate in the show as one of their preferred Hotels who partners with them to provide traditional Chinese Banquet Catering for weddings. I can say firsthand that their Chinese food is authentic as they come and their Asian Fusion cuisine gives you the best of both East and West!

Since this bridal show is called "The Debut," it was only fitting that The Sheraton Cerritos debuted our very own logo recyclable bags to Brides and Grooms at the event! These recyclable bags are perfect to use as wedding planning bags as well as for grocery shopping and are environmentally friendly.

Schedule a tour of The Sheraton Cerritos for your wedding and receive your very own logo recyclable bag. Or visit our booth at the Bridal Showplace show which will be held at our Hotel on Sunday, April 22nd from 11:00am to 4:00pm where we will be handing them out as goodies!

It's always a nice feeling of accomplishment when you receive "Thank You" notes from your Clients! Below are two I received from Miriam and Denmark's wedding from the Bride herself and her sister Elizabeth, who helped plan the wedding:

Hi Cathy,

We are really happy with the outcome of the wedding and just happy all the planning and stress is done. Thank you so much for all your help. :)

Dear Cathy,

Time flies so fast, I can't believe that it's been 3 weeks since Miriam and Denmark's wedding. I just wanted to thank you so much for helping make Miriam and Denmark's wedding so memorable! Right from the start I know my sister Miriam was very pleased with your customer service. Your personality really sold us on the Sheraton Cerritos because you were so fun. :D You were a really invaluable part to making their reception run smoothly and it was like a weight off my shoulders because I knew you and your staff would do an awesome job.

From the planning stages all the way until the day of the wedding you were awesome. I mean who else makes awesome table numbers that match the wedding colors, the day of the wedding? I even heard that you were able to save the lumpia from being devoured before it was placed in catering trays, that in itself was an amazing feat.

Thanks again, everyone was impressed with how organized everything was and how pretty the cerritos ballroom turned out. You and your staff were very professional and helpful.

Miriam and Denmark's Wedding Reception (Sneak Peek!)

This past Saturday, The Sheraton Cerritos had the honor of hosting Miriam and Denmark's wedding reception in our Cerritos Ballroom. Their wedding was a labor of love and a true family affair, as all of their wedding elements were handmade and their siblings and cousins all lent a hand with the day of set up. From their custom invitations, cake pop favors and even the centerpieces, everything was made from scratch. The touching slideshow, featuring interviews with key family members and friends and played at the reception, even brought me to tears! A special shout out goes to Elizabeth, Sister of the Bride and Maid of Honor, who worked hard to help plan this event along with Miriam and endured my endless stream of emails requesting information! More details to follow once I receive the official photos from Harvard Photography but in the meantime, here's a sneak peak from my own camera:

Congratulations Miriam and Denmark! Hope you are enjoying your new life together and we are honored to have been a part of your special day.

I personally lined up all 200+ placecards and yes, they are in perfect order!

Head table for 16 members of the wedding party!

Beautiful wedding cake from Amazing Cakes of Anaheim!

A last minute change of plans had me creating table numbers for the wedding - of course I had to make sure they matched the theme and color of the event!

It's always lovely to return to the office after the weekend to find a thank you note waiting for you in your email inbox. The following is from Shailiana and Karim's wedding:
Hi Cathy,
How are you. I want to thank you and your staff for all your support and help for holding a wonderful reception on Feb 19, 2012.
All my family members and guests who attended this reception are carrying wonderful memories and when I went to my church last friday everyone who were present at the reception were asking me when you're having another reception. Truly this could not be possible without you. Everything was very well managed. Barbara and her team did really good job and everything went smoothly. Once again I want to thank you and your staff on behalf of my whole family and I will definitely recommend your hotel to my friends and family for future events.
This just fuels me up for all my future weddings! Thank you Ashraf - it was an honor to be able to work with you and your family!

Last night, the Sheraton Cerritos had the honor of hosting the beautiful wedding reception of Shailiana and Karim in our Crystal Ballroom! The Groom's sister, Ashraf, coordinated, planned and hosted the whole event as a gift to her little brother. The Crystal Ballroom looked truly stunning and I joked with Ashraf that she should start a new career as a wedding planner! Besides the gorgeous decor by Manjit's Flower Cottage, the evening featured delicious food by At Watan of Hawthorne and even Bollywood Fusion dancers. In the meantime, here's a sneak peak of the wedding from my own trusty little Canon camera.

Congratulations Shailiana and Karim! We wish you a lifetime of happiness together and thank you for allowing us to celebrate with you.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

I hope you will be able to spend a portion of the day with the ones you love or at least tell those important to you how much they mean to you today and every day.

Here's a photo below of me and my Valentine on our wedding day. I can't ask for a better one than my husband Curtis! We usually avoid Valentine's Day like the plague but since we really haven't had much free time alone with a baby at home, we are going to take advantage of the Grandparents babysitting and will be celebrating tonight at... The Olive Garden! (Hey, it's close by and who can resist their unlimited breadsticks?!)

Share with me how you spent your Valentine's Day!

(P.S. Please do not expect me to look like this in the office - I don't have a hair and makeup team on standby everyday! Haha!)

Paola's Quinceañera!

I want to dedicate this blog entry to la familia Marquez. This family has decided to continue the Quinceañera tradition here with us at the Sheraton Cerritos.

What’s a Quinceañera? Most of us think it is just a fiesta… but I want to share the actual meaning of this special event with you. The Quinceañera tradition dates back to more than 600 years to the Aztec and Mayan cultures who celebrated when a young girl became eligible to marry, have children, and take on the responsibilities of a woman in the community. Eventually, the Spaniards were influenced by this tradition, and a Catholic connection emerged.

I remember cuando cumpli 15 años, I did not want to have a Quinceañera because I thought I was too cool for that! Now that I am older and wiser (jajaja) I regret it… I don’t have fotos or a memory of that special day. So I definitely encourage young señoritas to celebrate that special day whether it’s in your backyard or at a beautiful hotel… like the Sheraton Cerritos!

Paola, thank you for letting us to be a part of your special day…I hope we made it extra especial para ti y tu familia! Gracias!

Wow! Can you believe that we're almost finished with the first month of 2012? January has flown by with an unbelievable amount of inquiries we've received for weddings and other special events. If you are interested in the Sheraton Cerritos for your own celebration, definitely contact myself or Yazmin soon as our 2012 dates are booking up fast. We are already even booking into 2013!

Switching gears, I wanted to share with you a "Real Wedding" that had the distinction of being our last wedding of 2011. Due to our convenient location in the middle of Los Angeles and Orange Counties, as well as being the closest full service Hotel to Little India in Artesia, the Sheraton Cerritos is host to many fabulous multi-ethnic and Indian Weddings. One of the benefits of holding your ethnic celebration here with us is that we permit the use of ethnic outside caterers. Julie and Prasanth came from two different backgrounds but decided to hold an Indian Wedding Reception here with us to celebrate Prasanth’s cultural heritage. Take a look at some of their wedding day images complete with a gorgeous mandap (ceremony altar) and a horse and carriage for the baraat (Groom’s processional).

The Mother of the Groom was also kind enough to send the following thank you note after the wedding:

"Dear Cathy Cheng, Lisa Lifton and All Staff at the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel, Thank you for providing finest, friendly & comfortable services for Prasanth and Julie's wedding reception on November 19, 2011. Thank you again for everything."

Outside Indian Caterer: Woodlands of Chatsworth

Introducing...Lisa Lifton!

Hello everyone! Yazmin and I are proud to introduce another integral member of our team, Lisa Lifton, Sales and Catering Coordinator. Having worked the last two years in the hospitality industry and at the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel, Lisa has earned the respect of our entire Hotel staff as someone they can rely on to ensure all details of a Client’s big day go smoothly and as planned.   Lisa can handle anything that comes her way, whether it is for a wedding, corporate gala dinner, birthday party or overseeing a multi-million dollar real estate conference group. However, her heart does have a special fondness for weddings and social events and is our right hand gal to assist in the planning process and overseeing our events on the day of.

As a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications.  Initially working in public relations and the entertainment industry, she decided to shift directions when she happened upon the opening at the Sheraton Cerritos by chance.  Not only does Lisa have a great work ethic, having been awarded Associate of the Month twice here at the Hotel, but she also is involved in the local community by becoming a Miss Cerritos Princess and establishing great contacts within the city.

In her free time, Lisa loves watching movies, trying new restaurants and of course, traveling, which is great when working in this industry as there are Starwood hotels all throughout the world!

Lisa is eager to see where her career in hospitality leads and knows that each day is a chance to learn something new and to become better at what she loves doing.  She truly enjoys working with people, and especially looks forward to being there on your event day to make sure that day is as special as the Client imagined!

Hello From Yazmin...

Hi, I’m Yazmin Carreño, the Social Catering Manager at Sheraton Cerritos.

I was born and raised in Mexico City, until I was 15 years old... and I have been living in California since then, so I am definitely a Cali girl and yes I speak Spanglish.

So what’s a Social Catering Manager? People always ask me, do you cook? Pero la respuesta es siempre NO… but I finally got the right answer - my job is to book anything that has a dance floor (besides weddings… that’s Cathy)!

I started working in the hotel industry in 2001 and I can tell you that I don’t see myself doing anything else…Bueno despues de tratar el Front desk, Reservations, Food and Beverage, Revenue and Group sales… I finally found one of my biggest passions (besides shoes)… to help plan life’s most important events.

A quien no le gusta tener un evento... right? Quinceañeras, Sweet Sixteens, Debutantes, Class Reunions… o simplemente una fiesta.  Los eventos son parte of our lives and it is essential to enjoy them from the beginning. I enjoy creating an atmosphere in which people can have a good time without worries or distractions… Needless to say how fun they can be!

I have been quite lucky to work with some of the finest staff and learned under some outstanding management teams such as Holiday Inn, Furama Hotel and most recently the Four Points by Sheraton in Culver City. I believe that I have a wealth of experience and innovative ideas that I have collected during the last 11 years…  I look forward to sharing them with you!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and welcome to the brand new Sheraton Cerritos Weddings and Special Events Blog! I am so excited to be able to share with you the latest and greatest happening here at the Hotel in 2012 via this blog. You will be able to get to know us and learn why the Sheraton Cerritos is such a great venue to hold your own celebratory events.

To kick off my very first post, I thought I would start by introducing myself! As the Catering Manager specializing exclusively in weddings here at the Sheraton Cerritos, I have the pleasure of introducing our lovely property to prospective Brides and Grooms. Once the couple decides to hold their wedding with us, I then have the honor of assisting them throughout the planning process with finalizing the details of their wedding day. Finally, I oversee the wedding day itself along with our amazing Banquet and Kitchen team to ensure all that the carefully planned details come to fruition for the newlyweds!

A wedding is one of the most important days of a person's life, and I felt the same about mine when I was married back on June 2, 2007. However, I actually began my obsession with weddings over a decade ago when a dear friend asked me to assist with her wedding plans. At the time, I was in the entertainment industry as a Distribution Sales Manager for an independent movie production company. But once I entered the magical world of weddings, I changed careers and never looked back!

Prior to joining the Sheraton Cerritos, I was a Meetings and Special Events Manager with The Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena and transitioned to Catering Sales Manager after the property became The Langham, Huntington. During my tenure there, my focus was also on booking and servicing weddings, which routinely exceeded over 100 per year!

I am a graduate of the University of California, Irvine with a BA in English.  I am also a native of Cerritos, so it's wonderful to be able to return home and work in the City I grew up in and raise my 8 month old baby boy. Besides my family and weddings, the other loves of my life are good food, bestselling novels, movies in general, traveling around the world and, I'm not embarrassed to admit it, reality TV!

Looking forward to sharing more in the coming year with you... Cathy
